Florida Colleges Summary

Florida has the 6th highest total of colleges and adult education institutions in the country, with just about 300. Florida also ranks 4th for enrolled students, with more than 900,000. Perhaps because of the retirement population, Florida has a relatively small percentage of its population attending colleges in Florida (less than 6%).

There is a large number of for-profit schools in Florida -- more than 150 of them. Only 7 states have a higher percentage of for-profit schools. Even so, less than 10% of its students attend a for-profit school (only 7 other states have less than 10% of their student population going to for profit schools.

There are 17 colleges in Florida with more than 10,000 students, and 5 of these are community colleges. The largest college is the University of Florida with more than 45,000 students. Florida State University, University of Central Florida, and University of South Florida also have more than 30.000 students.
