Chappaqua History

In the early 1730s, a group of Quakers settled in the area now known as Chappaqua. They mostly engaged in farming, but other popular industries included shoemaking and hardware, eyeglasses and furniture construction. In 1846, when a railroad was extended to Chappaqua, businesses became concentrated around the station. The new businesses included hotels, livery stables, a library, stores and small factories.
