Introduction to Depew, New York
Depew, New York is 3 miles E of Cheektowaga, New York and 9 miles E of Buffalo, New York. It is in Erie county. The village is part of the Buffalo - Niagara Falls metro area. The population of Depew is 16,629.
Depew History
The present day Village of Depew was first settled in by Europeans in 1808. It was named after Chauncey Depew, the railroad official and U.S. senator. It became a rail center in 1892 and was incorporated as a village on July 23, 1894. In the 19th century, the economic development of the village largely depended upon railroad-related industries. Depew was the hometown of American poet and writer, Lucille Clifton.

There are several parks and playgrounds in Depew. The Firemen’s Park offers a picnic shelter, a full size swimming pool, basketball and volleyball courts, a wading pool and a playground. The village also has an indoor Ice Rink. Shopping can be enjoyed at the D and L Plaza Shopping Center.
