East Islip History
The present day town of East Islip was originally known as "east of Islip." It was once occupied by the Secatogues Indians. On November 29, 1693, English aristocrat William Nicoll purchased land from the Indians. In 1890, the area acquired its current name. The region is a census-designated hamlet in the Town of Islip, which includes around 4 incorporated villages and more than 20 unincorporated hamlets.
