East Meadow History
Surveyors from Hempstead surveyed the area presently occupied by East Meadow in 1655 and found it suitable for grazing. This resulted in the development of the region as a popular cattle grazing area during the 1700s. The sheep in this area provided over 50% of the wool for the United States. During the Revolutionary War, this area was captured by British forces and remained under its control until the end of the war.

The Eisenhower Park is home to Safety Town which is a miniature town with paved streets, traffic intersections and some other features of a regular town. It is essentially used to teach children about traffic safety. Eisenhower Park also has a playground and picnic facilities. The town has several museums that deal with a variety of interesting subjects as well.
