Fallsburg History

The Lenni Lenape tribal groups are believed to have been the earliest settlers in Sullivan County, and the area now known as Fallsburg. The area was once the hunting grounds during the summer for the Lenape, a tribal group. The Lenape were followed by the Europeans, especially the Dutch, who settled around Denniston’s Ford. The name Fallsburg had originally included an “h”, however it was abandoned in 1872, when the name was changed to Fallsburg.
