Glens Falls History

The area occupied by the present day city of Glen Falls was originally called Chepontuc. After many name changes, the area was named in honor of Colonel Johannes Glen in 1788. It had its first post office in 1808, and was incorporated as a village in 1839. Glens Falls achieved cityhood in 1908.
