Gloversville History
In 1752, Arent Stevens bought the land on which Gloversville developed. It began as a settlement for Puritans from New England, when it was known as Stump City. The area received its first post office in 1828 and adopted its current name around the same time. It was officially incorporated as a village in 1851.
