Greenlawn, New York, in Suffolk county, is 8 miles NW of Brentwood, New York and 33 miles E of New York, New York. The town is located in the Nassau - Suffolk metropolitan area. Greenlawn has a population of 13,286.
Greenlawn History
This area now known as Greenlawn was initially named Old Fields. After the coming of the Long Island Railroad in 1868, Greenlawn became quite famous for pickle production. Samuel Ballton, who was a freed slave, settled in this area after the Civil War and once grew 1.5 million cucumbers in one season. This feat earned him the title of ‘Pickle King.' Apart from the production of pickles, the area was also known for its cabbage and potato farms.

The annual Pickle Festival, which is held every September, is a well known local celebration. For rest and recreation purposes, there are several parks in the town which are fully equipped to support a diverse range of activities.
