Hampton Bays, New York, in Suffolk county, is 35 miles SE of West Haven, Connecticut and 77 miles E of New York, New York. The people of the town are in the Nassau - Suffolk metropolitan area. Hampton Bays has a population of 12,236.
Hampton Bays History
The earliest settlements in this area took place around 1740. Early settlers called this area “Good Ground” and it went on to become the chief hamlet out of the eleven that were present in the region. Most of these hamlets consisted of a couple of families and a schoolhouse. The eleven hamlets developed and attracted tourists from New York City. In 1922, they merged to form Hampton Bays.
