Lake Grove, New York, in Suffolk county, is 8 miles NE of Brentwood, New York and 45 miles E of New York, New York. The village is part of the Nassau - Suffolk metropolitan statistical area. About 10,250 people live in Lake Grove.
Lake Grove History
This area was first settled in during the early years of the 18th century. The community built its first church in 1818, and had its first post office in 1870. Lake Grove has been known as Lakeland, New Village, Lakeville, West Middle Island and Ronkonkoma during various periods in its history. It settled on its present name during the mid-19th century. The name was derived from the groves of trees found near Lake Ronkonkoma. Lake Grove was incorporated in September of 1968.
