Levittown History

The area was named after Levitt & Sons Inc, who built the town between 1947 and 1951 as a planned community. The town was built on land that was once used for potato farming. Levitt & Sons used cost-effective construction methods that resulted in the production of 30 houses a day. Levittown is distinguished for being the first mass-produced suburb and has served as an archetype in the building of postwar suburbs across the country.
