Lindenhurst History

The earliest European settlers in this area were from Germany. They named it Breslau, after their native city of Breslau in Silesia. The town was established in 1873, and adopted its present name of Lindenhurst in 1891. The name was derived from the Linden trees that grew in the area. This area was also famous for the presence of Nazi sympathizers during the 1930s.
