Middletown, New York, in Orange county, is 36 miles N of Wayne, New Jersey and 50 miles N of Newark, New Jersey. The city benefits from easy access to the nearby cities and towns that it shares the Newburgh metropolitan area with. Middletown has a population of approximately 25,388.

Middletown History

John Green bought land from the DeLancey patent and settled down here sometime during the mid-1840s. The area was named Middletown as a reference to its location between other areas. However, it was later renamed “South Middletown” because a town with a similar name existed nearby. It went back to its original name in 1848, when it became a village. Middletown achieved city status in 1888.

Things To Do In Middletown

Downtown Middletown has a shopping strip and several malls along the eastern edge of the city. Excellent dining opportunities are also available in this area. The downtown area also has a number of historic churches and many large Victorian houses can be found along Highland Avenue. Apart from these, the city and its adjoining areas also offer good opportunities for biking and hiking.
