North Bay Shore is a census designated hamlet within the town of Islip. The area was originally inhabited by the Algonquin Indians. The town was first settled in by Europeans in the late 1600s. The area became a major tourist attraction in the early 1900s and attracted numerous wealthy tourists from New York City.
