North Bellmore History
North Bellmore was originally settled in by Englishmen in the mid-17th century. Christian Sorto purchased the area in 1655. In its early years, the area was known as Smithville. The first railroad entered the town around 1867 and the station was named Bellmore. Since the community grew towards the railroad, it was also named after the station. North Bellmore is a census designated place in Nassau County, New York.
