Oceanside History

The present day town of Oceanside was originally known as South Bay. The area was renamed Christian Hook and changed to Oceanville in 1864. However, since there was already another Oceanville in New York, the name of this town was changed to Ocean Side in 1890. The first school of the area was built in 1838.
