Rotterdam History

The present day Town of Rotterdam was first settled in by Dutch settlers in the 1660s. It was established on April 14, 1820 and named after the city of Rotterdam, Netherlands. In the mid 1800s, the town boomed as one of the major corn industries. Development of the area also boomed after the Erie Canal was opened in the mid 1820s.
