Scarsdale, New York, in Westchester county, is 2 miles SW of White Plains, New York and 21 miles NE of New York, New York. The village is part of the New York metropolitan statistical area. About 17,823 people live in Scarsdale.
Scarsdale History
Scarsdale was named after the ancestral home of Caleb Heathcote, called the Manor of Scarsdale. The area was settled in by Europeans in the early 1700s. It became a town on March 7, 1788. Both the British and Continental armies passed through the area during the American Revolution. The New York and Harlem Railroad first entered the region in 1846. By 1850, Scarsdale had its own school, post office and two churches. It was incorporated as a village in 1915.
