Terryville History
Terryville, which is a part of the Town of Brookhaven, is a census-designated hamlet. The earliest known inhabitants of this region were Algonquian-speaking Native Americans who belonged to the tribes of Unkechaug and Setauket. The first European settlers came in 1655, when they purchased land from the local inhabitants and settled in the area. The primary occupations of these early English settlers were farming, fishing, and whale hunting.

The Long Island Museum is spread over nine acres of land and includes displays related to art and local history. The Wildwood State Park features an undeveloped forest spread over an area of 600 acres.
