Wyandanch History

The area now known as Wyandanch was originally inhabited by Massapequa Indians. Jacob Conklin purchased the land from the Indians in 1706. It was then known as "lower Half Hollows." Wyandanch and Deer Park evolved out of this land. The community was named after the Wyandance Brice and Terra Cotta Company. Wyandanch is now a census-designated hamlet in the Town of Babylon.

Things To Do In Wyandanch

The Sagamore Hill National Historic Site is built around the 19th century home of Theodore Roosevelt. The Walt Whitman Birthplace State Historic Park and Eagles Nest are among the other historic sites that are close by. The Huntington Historical Society has some interesting exhibits that shed light on the local history. One can also plan a day trip to the Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium, which has a large living collection of freshwater reptiles, fish and amphibians.
